Accelerating change – our client’s business challenge and setting

As part of an executive team rebuild where the Group Chief Executive Officer, Chief Executive Officer for Europe, and Chief People Officer were changed, we were given a retained mandate to hire a Managing Director for a complex public sector outsourced services part of the business. The incumbent was due to relocate, and there was a need for strict confidentiality given the level of hire. The client embraced this as an opportunity to develop the strategy and culture of a challenging business sector.

Our approach and response to this challenge

After initially being briefed to hire from a competitor in the same client sector, we used two cadence candidates to challenge and ultimately expand the scope of the brief.

At the beginning of the process, we arranged weekly update calls with our client, longlist reviews, shortlist reviews, and first stage interview slots, saving our client significant time at board level.

In terms of numbers, we identified 233 candidates at longlisting stage; selected the top 20 candidates for a direct approach; met and assessed 15 candidates under NDA; and shortlisted and presented six candidates to our client.

Accelerating results for our client

Our client interviewed 100% of our shortlisted candidates, with positive feedback on each one. Two were progressed through a five-stage interview process and we successfully managed the offer process to gain acceptance from their preferred candidate.
