InX spotlight series: In conversation with Amber-Rose Chapman
At InX, exceptional results are delivered by exceptional people. Our team combines deep specialist knowledge, market intelligence and a relentless focus on quality. This spotlight series offers insight into the people behind our practice, exploring how they navigate the executive search landscape and what drives them beyond the office.
We sat down with Amber-Rose Chapman to discuss her approach to human capital leadership, the evolving landscape of executive search and her journey from professional dancer to trusted adviser for some of the world's leading consulting firms.
Firstly, could you provide an overview of your role and area of specialism at InX?
I am an Associate Partner within InX's UK professional services practice, specialising in human capital Partner-level appointments across consulting and strategy firms.
I bring a highly consultative, relationship-driven approach to building leadership capability in complex, international organisations. My focus is on working with clients to identify and secure senior leaders who can drive transformational people agendas in fast-paced environments.
The executive search market is fiercely competitive; what would you say sets Inx apart?
The people at InX are the main differentiator. Recruitment often has a bad reputation, but the people at InX are all very driven, dedicated and go above and beyond to do the right thing. There's a real integrity to how we operate.
Additionally, as a smaller firm, InX is more adaptable and can tailor everything to the client's needs compared to bigger companies. We're not constrained by rigid processes or bureaucracy. If a client needs something done differently, we can make that happen quickly and effectively.
What interesting trends are you noticing in your market?
Although the recruitment market isn't particularly buoyant at the moment, transformation is increasingly central to everything we do. Human capital remains vital, particularly as AI and technology reshape business operations. People must remain the heart of the business in a landscape where tech is constantly evolving, something that remains high on every organisation's agenda.
What I find particularly interesting is that as organisations invest more heavily in technology and AI capabilities, the demand for exceptional human capital leaders has intensified. Ultimately, it's the people that drive the technological advances. You need leaders who can navigate that complexity, bring teams along on the journey and ensure that technology serves the business rather than the other way around.
What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?
To be your best at work, you need to be fulfilled outside of work. You need to find the right balance of work and life – burnout is not a badge of honour.
I think this is particularly relevant in executive search, where the work can be all-consuming if you let it be. I've found that when I maintain that balance, I'm more effective with clients, more present in conversations and ultimately better at what I do.
If you weren't in executive search, what career path might you have taken?
I was previously a professional dancer. I left school at 16 and went to stage school, then worked as a dancer on cruise ships and lived in Mexico for three years. It was an incredible experience and taught me so much about discipline, resilience and performing under pressure – skills that have served me well in my career.
However, if money were no object, my dream job would be as a dog walker! I know that would make my dog Reggie, a German shorthaired pointer, very happy too.
