InX spotlight series: In conversation with Charlie Pitt
At InX, exceptional results are delivered by exceptional people. Our team combines deep specialist knowledge, market intelligence and a relentless focus on quality. This spotlight series offers insight into the people behind our practice, exploring how they navigate the executive search landscape and what drives them beyond the office.
Firstly, could you provide an overview of your role and area of specialism at InX?
I’m a Research & Delivery Manager within InX’s Professional Services practice, based in London, where I lead the delivery team across the UK & Europe. I collaborate with Partner teams to deliver high-impact retained search mandates for clients in the consulting sector. While most of my mandates involve Partner-level appointments across strategy, transactions and value creation, I also bring expertise in delivering assignments across other sectors and functional areas, including technology, operations and restructuring.
The executive search market is fiercely competitive; what would you say sets Inx apart?
InX combines deep expertise with speed, never compromising on quality. Our team consists of sector specialists, with every member, regardless of level, focusing on a core area of specialisation. This depth of expertise enables us to deliver the best talent within our practice areas in significantly shorter timeframes than our competitors.
What interesting trends are you noticing in your market currently?
It’s no secret that the consulting sector has faced significant volatility over the past few years, driven by factors such as economic uncertainty, changing client demands and disruptions brought about by global events.
However, over the last six months, the market has shown a strong resurgence, with consulting firms refocusing their strategies and actively pursuing growth opportunities. Many have prioritised deepening and expanding their service offerings, with a particular emphasis on deal-related and private equity topics, reflecting increased activity and confidence in these areas.
This growth has not been confined to a specific type of organisation. It has been fuelled by a diverse mix of players within the sector. Major global consulting powerhouses continue to solidify and grow their market share by enhancing their expertise and investing in new capabilities, particularly across deal-related areas. At the same time, specialist boutique firms are emerging as strong competitors, leveraging their agility and niche expertise to carve out new service lines and break into untapped geographies.
This dual dynamic of global firms expanding their dominance alongside boutique players disrupting the market has created a competitive and fast-moving talent landscape. As a result, the race to secure top talent to drive these initiatives has become more critical than ever, particularly as firms aim to capitalise on the renewed momentum in the consulting industry.
Finally, if you weren't in executive search, what career path might you have taken?
I would likely have pursued a career in a trade. Coming from a family with a strong background in the flooring trade, I’ve always enjoyed lending a hand with DIY projects. Over time, this has grown into a personal hobby, and I like to take on most DIY tasks during my free time.
