InX spotlight series: In conversation with Gus Lambert
At InX, exceptional results are delivered by exceptional people. Our team combines deep specialist knowledge, market intelligence and a relentless focus on quality. This spotlight series offers insight into the people behind our practice, exploring how they navigate the executive search landscape and what drives them beyond the office.
In this edition, we are delighted to welcome Gus Lambert, Associate Partner in our London private equity team, to discuss leadership demand in industrial and manufacturing businesses, the trends reshaping operational value creation, and what drew him to InX.
Firstly, could you provide an overview of your role and area of specialism at InX?
I've joined InX to partner with PE-backed industrial and manufacturing businesses to identify and attract transformational executives capable of delivering meaningful operational and financial outcomes.
My focus is on placing C-suite and senior leaders across operations, transformation and value creation functions globally, working closely with portfolio company CEOs and PE operating partners to build leadership teams that perform when it matters.
Tell us more about your experience and background. How do you see that adding value in your new role?
I've spent the past six years working with both tier one strategy and operational consultancies, as well as supporting PE-backed organisations within the industrial and manufacturing space, with a focus on VP and SVP level hiring.
I also joined my previous firm as the second employee and helped scale the business to over 20 people — experience that gives me a practical understanding of what it takes to build something, not just place into it.
What interesting trends are you noticing in your market?
Industrial and manufacturing businesses remain a key focus for private equity, driven by reshoring, automation and digital transformation. As portfolio companies look to accelerate value creation, demand is rising for leaders who can drive operational improvement, technology adoption and growth simultaneously. That convergence is creating real momentum for executive search in this space.
What excites you most about your future at InX?
The opportunity to be part of a wider group while helping InX scale is genuinely exciting. When we speak to clients, we can confidently offer not just domain expertise but a comprehensive, turnkey solution — drawing on the breadth of verticals within The IN Group to meet whatever leadership challenge a client is facing. That is a real differentiator, which really sets InX apart from standalone search firms.
What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?
Remain inch wide, mile deep. Breadth creates opportunity; depth creates value.
Outside of work, what might people be surprised to learn about you?
I'm happiest on the water, when sailing or surfing. It's mostly the UK coastline these days, but I spent a lot of my twenties in Australia, which set the bar rather high.
