InX spotlight series: In conversation with Gordon Berridge
Gordon Berridge has spent almost two decades in executive search, the last ten as a revenue-generating MD and Partner. He recruits technology investment professionals for venture growth and PE buyout funds across Europe and the US, and recently joined InX as a Senior Partner in the London office.
In our latest spotlight, Gordon shares what is happening to AI talent in private equity (PE), what drew him to InX and the best career advice he has been given.
Firstly, could you provide an overview of your role and area of specialism at InX?
I'm a Senior Partner focused on in-fund recruiting from venture growth and PE buyout funds. I have a bias towards recruiting technology investment professionals across Europe and the US.
Tell us more about your experience and background. How do you see that adding value in your new role?
I've worked in executive search for roughly 17 years, ten of them as a revenue-generating MD/Partner. My time has largely been spent in the PE sector, where I found myself recruiting mostly for technology investors early on and built that network over time. Used well, this experience and network should position me and my colleagues strongly at InX.
What interesting trends are you noticing in your market?
Capital is flowing heavily into AI, which means there is a clamour for specialists at various investment and operating levels. However, the large AI-native platforms can afford to pay significantly for the very best talent, so even the biggest funds cannot compete commercially.
What excites you most about your future at InX?
The scope to build a joined-up platform that is dedicated but also diverse, and even recession-proof, is real. While I enjoy the revenue-generating side of executive search, the opportunity to develop strategically with the business could be exciting.
What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?
Do so much that it would be crazy to fail.
If you weren't in executive search, what career path might you have taken?
I'd like to think I'd be doing something strategic, either commercial or product-focused, with a growing brand. Looking back over almost two decades of my career, the most enjoyment has come from working with businesses in a growth phase.
Outside of work, what might people be surprised to learn about you?
I compete in CrossFit competitions semi-regularly, to a subpar standing.
