InX spotlight series: In conversation with Matthew Campbell

At InX, exceptional results are delivered by exceptional people. Our team combines deep specialist knowledge, market intelligence and a relentless focus on quality. This spotlight series offers insight into the people behind our practice, exploring how they navigate the executive search landscape and what drives them beyond the office.

In this edition, we are delighted to welcome Matthew Campbell to InX as a Partner within our North American professional services practice. We sat down with Matt to learn more about him, his background and what brought him to InX.

Firstly, could you provide an overview of your role and area of specialism at InX?

As a Partner specialising in Financial Advisory services, my focus is on delivering executive search engagements within finance-related practices at management consulting firms.

That means placing senior leaders and specialists across a broad range of disciplines — finance strategy, enterprise performance management, controllership, FP&A, treasury, M&A and transaction advisory, valuation and restructuring. These are critical, high-impact roles for consulting firms, and getting them right matters enormously for the businesses we partner with.

Tell us more about your experience and background. How do you see that adding value in your new role?

I have been in recruitment ever since graduating. It was always the career that made the most sense to me, as I wanted something that let me channel a genuine love of connecting with people. Over the course of nearly a decade, I have had the opportunity to lead large-scale talent and hiring initiatives across professional services and financial institutions, managing complex portfolios, building new business lines and leading high-performing teams.

A big part of what I have always done is work closely with senior leaders to shape talent strategy and streamline how organisations hire. Bringing that experience to the management consulting space — an industry where the calibre of your people is everything — feels like a natural and exciting next step.

What was it about InX that stood out to you during your search process — what ultimately made you say yes?

Honestly, it came down to the people. I loved every single person I met throughout the interview process. It’s clear that this is a team of smart, kind, funny people who genuinely want to work hard and find success together. They care about the same things I do — relationships, quality, doing right by clients and candidates — and I am very grateful to be here.

What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?

If you can't learn to celebrate the small wins, you will never appreciate the big ones.

It sounds simple, but it is something I come back to often. Executive search can be a long game. Keeping perspective and taking a moment to acknowledge progress along the way makes a real difference.

If you weren't in executive search, what career path might you have taken?

My very first job was as a dog walker. If I could go back in time, I would seriously consider pursuing a dog-centric career path! My dog Pete, a pitbull-rottweiler mix, might argue I never really left that world behind.
